Onceler x DaughterNature! Reader part 3

You spent every moment of every day with the Onceler. The dorky 20 year old human had surely grown on you in the past couple of weeks since you met. You liked everything about him; his lean posture, his sweet blue eyes, the way he was so fatherly towards the bear cubs, his clumsiness, his talent with that guitar of his, his dedication to try and promote his invention - the Thneed, a soft pink thing with many uses -, the list went on and on.

Right now, you two were spending the afternoon, after the Onceler's failure to try and sell the Thneed again, playing poker with The Lorax and Pipsqueak. Lorax's green eyes glared over at the two of you. Well, he was glaring more at the poor Onceler rather than at you.

Finally you broke the silence. "Lorax, you know Pipsqueak is too young to play poker" you sighed.

"He's fine, Daughter Nature. He's played it with me before" Lorax remarked.

"Lorax! Change the game before I turn you into a worm! And stop calling me that!" You snapped.

"Fine, we'll play Go Fish instead" Lorax relented as he took in and re-dealt the cards.

You smiled as some of the fish walked up to join in. You saw the surprised look on The Onceler's face. "What?" you asked him.

"(Name)? You just scolded him for letting Pipsqueak play poker?" Onceler stated.

"He's good with kids, he's just a bit of a bad influence when he plays poker. Pipsqueak's only a baby in many ways. Plus, I have authority over him here" You told him.

You guys spent hours playing Go Fish with Gill and his fish mates, The Lorax and Pipsqueak. Bill, a baby swan kept making a nuisance of himself by eating a few of the cards. You and the Onceler laughed every time either Gill or the Lorax said 'aw!" whenever Bill ate a card they needed. Since you and Onceler were the tallest two in the Valley, neither of you lost your cards to Bill.

When it got dark, you and the Onceler got bored so you two stood up and walked through the Valley together. "This place is so beautiful, isn't it?" you asked Onceler.

"What? Oh, y-yeah. R-really beautiful" he stammered in agreement.

You giggled. "You sure do stutter a lot for a man your age" you observed.

Onceler blushed. "F-forgive me, (Name)" he apologised.

"Don't be sorry, Oncie. I kinda like that about you, it's cute" you admitted. You had become so fond of him, you nicknamed him 'Oncie'; he blushed every time you called him that. You touched the bark of a Truffula tree beside you and the Onceler. The tree grew even taller and its tufts of soft, pink coloured fur became even fluffier.

"D-did you just do that, (Name)?" Onceler asked as his blush faded away and his eyes lit up with wonder, like a child's.

"Yep, that's all I can do so far. When I turn 120, I'll be able to do a lot more" You answered. The wind blew, begging the two of you to dance that night. You giggled, taking The Onceler's hands and pulling him closer.

"(N-name)? W-what are y-you d-doing?" Onceler stammered.

"Let's dance with the wind, Onceler. You can dance, right?" you told him.

Onceler had to look down at you to smile. "O-of course. Shall I lead?" he agreed, finding the confidence to put a hand on your waist and intwinned your free hand with his. You placed your hand on the arm that was connected to the hand on your waist, nodding.

The two of you then started dancing, you following the Onceler's lead. You found yourself lost in the Onceler's eyes, he was lost in yours as you danced together with the wind. You were both bathed in the moonlight. You laid your head on Onceler's shoulder. He tensed up at first then relaxed. Some of the fish started singing a melody you didn't recognise, but it reminded you of the moment you met the Onceler for the first time.

"I won't ever forget you, (Name)" Onceler admitted.

"Onceler, I'm going to promise you something. If you keep your promise to Lorax, I'll make you immortal" You told him.

"You can actually do that?" Onceler gasped.

"Yes. I'm not going to give you up, Oncie" You replied. It sounded selfish but Onceler was special to you.

"If that means I can spend forever here, then yes. You have a deal, (Name)" Onceler agreed.

None of you saw The Lorax and Pipsqueak spying on you two. Lorax frowned. "I knew it. I knew she'd get attached to him" he sighed
